This is helpful. I'm stepping away from leadership in a church org and the folks who stepped up (however reluctantly!) are going in a very different direction. Excellent exercise in humility. Grateful for the online communities I found that helped prepare me for all of it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! Diminishing is an interesting concept to consider as I have almost reached retirement in teaching. 4 more years! Can I still be relevant at 60 to a bunch of kids with whom I can relate little? It’s a great question!

I retired from teaching last year and I was 64. In my final year(s), I still learned more about teaching, still loved more kids, still gave them support. Now that I'm retired, I volunteer as a reading tutor at the public libray, and I still learn, love, support. I'm sure you will make a great impact on the next few years! Like he said, diminishing an attempt at influence, but being who you are and have been. A person who chose to teach.
