I haven’t communicated in a while, but found your re-introduction interesting. Also sharing the fate of suffering from excessive music, art, and anthropology. Blessing on your head!
Good read. You remind me of me but with some interesting contrasts. Nice to meet you again, kinda sad we didn't get spend much time in person, though I've been blabbing personal stuff on your blog. Ah, internet.
Aha. A fellow SWTS grad (class of '93 here), and ordinand of ETC although ministering in a non-denominational fashion now. Committed to a monastic way of being while living in a secular setting. No wonder I enjoy your writing so much! Will need to find my way to Richmond one of these days.
It was so nice to meet you while visiting our kids recently, and our stay at Richmond Hill was refreshing and relaxing for my soul- a bonus that I very much needed! I have enjoyed reading your substack and learning a bit more about you and life at Richmond Hill through your eyes.
You are one fascinating human being. Something else we have in common is that I too, was a middle school teacher for 15 years. The kids kept coming so i finally quit...look at us.:)
You don’t include your affiliation with the Society of St. Francis in your story. I found that curious, as most Franciscans I have met seem to consider this a major aspect of their spiritual being. I am a Companion, affiliated with one Fellowship, so my experience is limited.
I also forgot to mention that became an Episcopalian in 2015. I wrote it very early in the morning and there were a lot of very obvious things that did not make it in. I may have to edit it.
I love this. And you.
You are always so damned kind and supportive. Thank you.
Best beard game ever

I never thought about writing intros! On the other hand it’s good to know more about you.
